In the biological sense, the term adult refers to a human or animal that is one who has fully grown. The term "adult" is often used in the context of humans to mean social and legal concepts. Contrary to those who are not considered an adult or "minor", the legal adult is a person who has reached the age of majority which makes them independent as well as responsible and competent. They are also known as a "major". The point at which a person becomes an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of"legal maturity" may differ based on the legal or country system as well as the state of their mental health.

In the lifespan of a human being Adulthood refers to the time at which he or she attains full intellectual and physical maturation. Adulthood usually begins when a person reaches 21, which is the average age for adults. The middle age is around 40 years before being followed by an elderly age of 60. The three main stages of adulthood are the early years (from the mid 30s until late 60s) and middle adulthood, from mid-30s to late-60s and later adulthood (mid-60s through end of life). In the early years of adulthood we have reached its physical maturity to the maximum. Yet, our size and weight may rise. As we enter the first years of our adulthood, we're physically and mentally at the peak. Strength of muscles, reaction timing, the ability to sense and cardiac function are all at their highest levels.
